In a move to secure its data centres, the Andhra Pradesh Police has separated the internal network (Intranet) with external network (Internet). The organisation has been digitising and making information available online. The huge data centre, set up at the Police Computer Services (PCS) at the Police Head Quarters, has a clear-cut framework to separate militarised and non-militarised zones.
The PCS had deployed 42 servers at its data centre. It is one of the biggest data centre in the area of policing in the country. The centre takes care of the entire digitisation effort which is being strengthened by solutions like SAN (Storage Area Network) and Blade Servers.
The centre already hosted 3.65 lakh FIRs and details of 50,000 ‘repeat offenders’ along with their photographs and crime details. It also comprises details of 30,000 stolen, abandoned and recovered vehicles. Information on 3.76 crore mobile users too is there. Details of 5.89 crore voters (based on the identification cards) and 80.68 lakh holders of driving licences too could be accessed through the data centre.
