As the Indian economy is booming and is being predicted to be going stronger in future, it has become absolutely essential for our government to be effective, transparent and accountable in order to increase India’s overall competitiveness internationally. Good governance is imperative for a developing country to be progressive and e-Government supports good governance. Though India is trying to catch-up with the developed nations, there are issues like corruption, lack of infrastructure, which are hampering its growth. e-Government could play a very important role to battle all these problems and thus lead to enhanced country’s global competitiveness.

Conference Recommendations

ICT in public sector can not only improve productivity potential but also address some of the root causes for corruption. To ensure that diverse ICT capabilities are effectively harnessed, there is a need to establish coherent strategies at the national and regional levels. Strategies that would help coordinate ICT policies with closely related areas such as enabling citizens to gain access to vital facilities, industrial development, employment, privacy, data protection, and regulation of the mass media. With all the strategies in place, the importance of appropriate legislations and regulations should not be overlooked for a secure and a trustworthy interaction between people and government.

Last year we had organized Conflux ( http://www.csdms.in/conflux ) 2005 in New Delhi, to address the emerging issues in e-Governance and debate on National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) in India. Building on the success of the last year and taking ahead our dialogue, from the year 2006 we are re-branding it as eGov India. It will be held from 23-25 August, 2006 at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi. Block these dates and join us to deliberate, discuss and debate on the theme e-Governance in India: Vision 2010.
